The First Spring: Rabi ul Awwal

I feel spring fever coming on…did you go outside today? I did…it was beautiful. I bundled my daughter and myself up only to be met with the need to shed the gloves and wool scarf. We are now in the third Islamic month, Rabi al’ Awwal , which literally means the first spring.

And what a beautiful month it is already turning out to be. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) was born on a Monday at dawn in the middle of this month, and he also departed from this world midday on a Monday during this month. This is the month that he (saws) also migrated from Mecca to Medina. His granddaughter, Um Khulthum bint Ali (ra), was born on the 18th of this month, and his loving and supportive uncle, Abu Talib ibn Abdul Muttalib died this month. The Prophet (saws) also married his first wife and my forever-historical role model, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (ra), during this month. And this is also the month that the first traditional masjid was built,  Masjid Al Quba. Subhanallah! With a month full of so many historical events, this spring should be a promising one, inshAllah! I can feel it!
